This Friday night …

The official CD release concert for my new recording is this Friday, March 28, at the Amsterdam Bar and Hall on 6th and Wabasha in downtown St. Paul. Proceeds from the $7 cover and CD sales will go to House of Mercy Recordings so they can continue to produce good local music.

If you can make it, it’ll be great to see you. If not, that’s okay, too. Feel free to share the info or poster with anyone who might be interested. (Or not — I won’t check up on you.)

The music begins at 9 p.m. with my friends Pocahontas County, a great bluegrass band that will start things off with high energy and great harmonies.

Next Erik Brandt will play with his band of Twin Cities alt-country stalwarts, the Urban Hillbilly Quartet.

One of my oldest and closest friends, Jon Rodine, will follow with his amazing voice and songwriting talents.

I’ll go on at 10 or so and play most of the songs from the CD with some of the incredible musicians who contributed to the project: Quillan Roe, Erik Brandt, Levi Stugelmeyer, Jake Hyer and Dave Strahan, as well as  my friend Jeremy Szopinski helping out on guitar. (I might even coax my gal up to sing a duet that I sang on the CD with Angie Talle, who unfortunately can’t be there Friday.)

Between sets John Soshnik will play some of his great original songs, and he’ll also join us during the second set for a couple favorites from our old band, Three County Tour.

Also joining us will be the choir that sings background on “Going Home,” a gospel song on the CD: Jeff Zupfer (who arranged the choir part), Maria Bianchi, Becky Schauer, Kendal Marsh, and my best pal Diane Bond Larson.

I’m excited to have some of these old songs on CD and the Internet, and grateful to the folks who made it happen, especially Erik Brandt of House of Mercy Recordings, who encouraged me to record, set up the sessions with a bunch of great musicians, arranged for the CD release show, and offered his support, professionalism and good cheer throughout the process. I also want to thank Levi Stugelmeyer who recorded, engineered and co-produced the CD at his studio. Levi has a great ear and incredible skill — and he’s a heckuva drummer as you may learn on Friday.

Hope to see some of you there, and I’m thankful for your love and friendship over the years.
