Christopher Hitchens and the protocol for public figure deaths – Glenn Greenwald – Salon.com

Greenwald is about as clear-headed as anyone out there, a liberal completely unfazed by party lines on either side, which makes his writings uncomfortable for an Obama supporter like me.

Anyway, I’ve been unimpressed with the over-the-top eulogies of Christopher Hitches, especially the “farewells” to a strident atheist, as if he can hear them. Greenwald points out that “don’t speak ill of the dead” shouldn’t apply to public figures, as Hitchens himself demonstrated.
