Kingfishers, kinglets and wrens (oh my)

I saw a belted kingfisher on a wire on the way home, then another hunting over the river when I went for a walk. A few days ago, when I was jogging past some woods, I saw what I think was a winter wren near the ground, and also a tiny bird higher in the trees that might’ve been a kinglet. Paulette Paulsen here at the Messenger saw a golden-crowned kinglet the other day, so I bet what I saw was a kinglet, too. I thought I’d see some hermit thrushes yesterday, but didn’t.

Lots of waterfowl in the ditches and streams and ponds on the drive up. Buffleheads, ring-necked ducks, hooded mergansers.
