We went to St. Cloud yesterday so Cedar could compete in the history day competition. She did a project on women’s suffrage. I liked it, but I’d be surprised if she made it on to the state competition. Lots of elaborate projects. I think she probably learned how hard she would have to work to be among the top entries.
We saw either a Cooper’s hawk or sharp-shinned flying through St. Cloud, and broad-winged hawks circling over the road on the way home. I also saw a meadowlark fly across the road and land on someone’s driveway.
I took a walk down to the river in the afternoon. There are streams of open water flowing through the ice, but not the whole way. Slushy snow made for difficult walking. I saw a phoebe perch on a brach down by the river. Still no bluebirds.
