Two thumbs up, 4 out of 5 stars. Forest Whitaker is pretty convincing. He deserved all the praise he got for his role as Idi Amin. Charming and insane, a sympathetic portrayal of a guy responsible for 300,000 deaths. James McAvoy as his Scottish doctor is also really good. Gillian Anderson, the old X Files sidekick, is too skinny, but her British accent is pretty good.
I usually like the rare Hollywood movie that deals with Africa, probably mostly because they’re so rare. It’s always interesting to go there via the movies.
It’s one of those “inspired by real events” movies, but I haven’t looked into how true it is.
That was from the video store. I have Shaun of the Dead waiting from Netflix.
